A fantastic pair of large (16") majolica figures of a boy and girl in traditional costume playing kettle drums. The pictures don't do justice to the richness of color hand painted detail beneath the glaze. The boy is marked under the base with BU 653 (Brothers Urbach) and the girl has the mark on the back outside base (see picture #6) with a 654 number. Brothers Urbach was a porcelain firm in the Bohemian (Austria) town of Turn-Teplitz from 1882-1906. The naturalistic detail of these pieces are as amazing as the condition. Aside from the replacement of three of the four drumsticks, we can find no visible damage.
You don't run into choice matched pieces of majolica like this very often.
