Purchased from Sotheby-Park Bernet Galleries, New York in the 1970s this reddish slip clay female figure on a buff ground exhibits remnants of white paint around the legs. Significant traces of manganese dioxide and other mineral deposits cover much of the surface. No damage or repair of any kind. 8-1/2" tall.
Excellent example of western Mexican shaft-tomb culture.

Good honest pre-columbian pieces are becoming more difficult to acquire now that many Latin-American countries are strengthening their looting laws. This fine sheep faced figure from Jalisco, Mexico exemplifies a common deity form and dates from 200BC-300AD.

We deal only in bonafide antiquities from reputable sources and will gladly refund the full price of any piece that fails laboratory age testing or the opinion of any professional archaeologist or anthropologist.
