Here is a very nice Police Officer Dick Mansfield I'm A Dick Mansfield Safety Carefulier (sponsored by The Evening Star newspaper?) pinback button to add to your collection. It is being offered here for the first time by us. Dick Mansfield was a D.C. police officer for 32 years, who rose up through the ranks from the late 1930's through the mid-1960s. He was also a cartoonist, doing cartoons and drawings dealing with his police work, which was published in many newspapers and magazines. Among of which, was the Saturday Evening Post of Norman Rockwell fame. Officer Mansfield was well known in the D.C. area for traveling to local schools and would give the children "Chalk Talks" about safety, and hand out individual drawings that he did himself. We're sure there are still a few people who remember Officer Mansfield coming to their school when they were kids. This button was either a newspaper premium, given out by the paper, or a newspaper sponsored pinback given out by Officer Mansfield when he did his appearances at the local D.C. schools. This lithographed pinback button is in very nice condition, with the exception of a little white paint lose on the upper rim area at about 10-11 o'clock. This you should be able to see in our two front photos. This pinback button measures 1-3/8" and was made by the Green Duck Company Chicago. Don't miss out on adding this great piece of American Police and newspaper history to your collection. We attempt to be as accurate as possible with our descriptions, so there are no surprises to the lucky buyer. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest. Please email us with any questions or concerns that you may have. You will be answered in a timely manner. If asking on, or near the weekend, give us a little more time to respond, as we may be away on business.
