Here is a nice and early ca. 1896 Sterling Bicycle advertising lapel stud to add to your collection. It is being offered here for the first time by us. This came from an up-state NY collection of bicycle related pinback buttons, and we will be putting a few others up for sale as well. Please check them out also. Anyway the Sterling bicycle was first produced in Chicago, and then the company was soon moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin. This company was in business from 1894-1998, after which it was bought up by the ABC, (The American Bicycle Company) in 1899. This button for its age is in nice condition, except for a few discoloration spots on the face. This you should be able to see in our two front photos. This button measures 7/8" across, and was made by the Whitehead and Hoag Co. Newark, NJ. It also states Pat. Applied For. So this would indicate that it was probably made around the earlier part of 1896, or so. Probably before they came out with the celluloid pin back button. Don't miss out on adding this great piece of bicycling history to your collection. We attempt to be as accurate as possible with our descriptions, so there are no surprises to the lucky buyer. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest. Please email us with any questions or concerns that you may have. You will be answered in a timely manner. If asking on, or near the weekend, give us a little more time to respond, as we may be away on business.
