Here is a very nice 1-1/4" John Evan Hughes (for Governor) and Matthew Linn Bruce (for Lt. Governor) political campaign button to add to your collection. This is being offered here by us for the first time. We will be listing other vintage campaign buttons as well, so check those out as well.
Both Hughes and Bruce were both Republicans, who ran in the 1906 New York state campaign. Hughes won the bid as Governor and served from Jan. 1 1907 to Oct. 6, 1910. While Matthew Linn Bruce who had served as Lt. Governor from 1905 through 1906, but lost the re-election bid in the 1906 campaign with his running mate Hughes. Hughes won the Republican bid to run for the presidency in 1916, but lost to Democratic candidate, Woodrow Wilson. This button is in excellent condition, and has its original back paper makers insert. It was made by the Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, NJ.
