Here is a nice and old (ca. 1920's) Barber Asphalt & Paving Co. of Maurer, N.J. numbered company ID badge to add to your collection. I am a life long resident of my state, (NJ) and county (Middlesex). When I saw the town name Maurer I scratched my head, and asked myself, where in NJ is Maurer? When I looked it up, I was very surprised to find out that it is a residential (5,000 + people), and industrial district of Perth Amboy, NJ where I was born! The district encompasses the Chevron Refinery, as well as another district, (now a part of Maurer) Barber, where the Chevron Asphalt Company is currently. I will now surmise, that the once Chevron Asphalt Company, was the Barber Asphalt & Paving Co. Where the former town named (Barber) got its name from back in 1876, as a company 'town" when it got its start. When Maurer engulfed Barber, I have not been able to determine. Maybe some time after Chevron purchased the Barber Asphalt & Paving Company? Whatever the case, I am sure that some local historian would know this. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Anyway this is a nice and old badge, which measures 1-5/16." The catch and pin on the back, both work very well. As you can see in our one photo, it was made by the Bastian Bros. Co. Rochester, N.Y. It is either made of nickel, or nickel plated over brass, a magnet doesn't stick. Don't miss out on adding this great piece of NJ history to your collection. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest. Please email us with any questions or concerns that you may have. You will be answered in a timely manner. If asking on or near the weekend, give us a little more time to respond, as we may be away on business.
