Here is very nice and old Bal Tabarin Paris tin advertising spinner to add to your collection. This cabaret/night club first opened its doors in 1904 by composer and orchestra leader Auguste Bosc. It was an immediate success, and was acquired in 1928 by Pierre Sandrini (son of the prima ballerina Emma Sandrini and artistic director of the Moulin Rouge) and Pierre Dubout took over the business. During the occupation of Paris it was frequented by many German officers. During this time the South African dancer Florence Waren performed there. Unknown by the Germans, she was Jewish. Still she was interned for several months as a enemy alien. After her release, she returned to the Bal Tabarin, and teamed up with Frederic Apgar to form the dancing duo "Florence et Frederic" they became famous. While doing this she aided the French Resistance. After the war the Bal Tabarin was taken over by the owners of the Moulin Rouge, who closed it in 1953. Boy, if only this spinner could talk what a story it might have to tell? This spinner is made of a very thin tin, has a bent spot which had been straightened a long time ago, in the thin area of the ankle. This you might be able to see in our reversed side photo. This spinner was used to see who would pay for the next round of drinks. Whoever it landed on, that person would have to pay. It still had very good balance when you spin it on a smooth surface. It measures 3-1/4" in length, by 1-1/2" across its widest point. Don't miss out on adding this historical piece of Paris cabaret memorabilia to your collection. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest. Please email us with any questions or concerns that you may have. You will be answered in a timely manner. If asking on or near the weekend, give us a little more time to respond, as we may be away on business.
