Well here is a super nice US Navy launch pinback button for the submarine USS Halibut to add to your collection. This is an original launch pinback button given out to invited attendees of this submarines launching on Dec. 3, 1941, at the Portsmouth Naval Yard, Kittery, Maine. This was four days before the attack at Pearl Harbor. The Halibut during its WWII career, had 10 war patrols. On her 10th war patrol on Oct. 25, 1944 she torpedoed, and sank the Japanese destroyer Akitzuki, East-northeast of Cape Engano, Philippines. During this patrol, on Nov.11, 1944, she was severally damaged by depth charges and aerial bombs in Luzon Strait, forcing her to return to base. Her damage was so extensive they said that it would be too costly for the necessary repairs. She was de-commissioned on July 21, 1945. During her WWII career she sank 12 enemy ships. This button is in excellent condition, and measures just under 1-1/2" across. Don't miss out on this great piece of WW II US Naval submarine service history, it won't last long! Please email us with any questions, or concerns. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest.
