Here is a very nice and fairly rare WWII 488th Port Transportation Battalion theatre made DUI crest to add to your collection. It is in excellent condition, and appears to have some damage within the blue enamel. However, this is not the case, but rather a little discoloration done in the firing within the blue enamel area. The enamel is fully intact and has no chips or cracks what so ever. These Italian war period produced DUI crests are hard to find. This battalion holds the record for most tonnage unloaded in Naples, Italy, while still under constant bombing by the Germans. They were then given the task of unloading three ships worth of equipment during the invasion of Anzio. For 42 straight days they were heavily bombarded by enemy planes, as well as being fired on by the big 280mm German railroad gun called "Anzio Annie." They lost many men during this time, but finally got the job completed. These guys were real war time heroes, and finally after many years of being overlooked got their well deserved recognition. This DUI crest measures 1-3/16" in height, by about 15/16" across its widest point. Their motto reads: "Gradatione Vincimus." I am not sure of its translation. Our photos should tell you just about all of the rest. Please feel free to email us any questions or concerns.
