This extremely rare fine carved and pierced Indian rosewood screen with colored glass inserts dates to around 1860-80. Ideal for a vignette for your favorite French poupee. In very good condition considering its age and the fragile nature of its construction. It has an open construction and there is no evidence that the big open panels ever had anything in them. It has one fretwork roundel missing and one is broken but just needs re-glueing and two colored glass roundels are missing. These should be relatively easy to replace. The missing fretwork roundel could be remade by a maker of miniature dollhouse furniture or just leave it as it is. I have had this displayed with my dolls for years and it has never bothered me that it has these small issues as it is so beautiful and rare. It is 15" tall, each panel is 4" wide and the whole screen is 24" wide.
