This vintage Victorian inkwell stand is decorated with an intricate abalone shell pattern inlaid in a blackened wood platform. This oval shape platform is designed with a deep decorative pen rest, two round lidded compartments for nibs & an early pressed inkwell with a nickel plate over bronze top. This inkwell's star shape base inserts into a fitted central space on the inkwell. The scalloped border of the inkwell's base is decorated with hand painted gold accents. Looking at the undersurface, one may surmise that this platform rested upon four round wood balls as there are four empty holes. Additionally, there is a small chip in one of the "feet" of the glass inkwell. This estate find was the property of a mason.
