This unique mid nineteenth century figural inkwell is finished in a dark patina & features a peasant character holding a serving tray. On the tray, one finds a knife & a covered basket with the head of a live chicken, his dinner, protruding through the top. The basket is one of two hidden wells designed within this clever sculpture. The other is located beneath the peasants hinged head & a pen holder is positioned near his left arm. The bronze is unsigned & is mounted upon a circular beige marble platform. The bronze/marble ensemble is in excellent condition but is missing the inkwell inserts.
