18th Century Neoclassical Italian Commode 1780 -90. A very fine example of what is believed to be a northern Italian Two drawer Walnut Commode decorated with outstanding Marquetry and Inlay work throughout. There is a very detailed string Inlay design on the drawer fronts and the overall veneers on the case exterior are Walnut, Kingwood, Rosewood, and Cherry over a Pine and Poplar carcass. The top is decorated with two center floral Marquetry motifs surrounded by a Greek key string Inlay design pattern.
CONDITION: Drawer Brasses although appropriate for the style of the piece are later replacements. Minor old veneer repairs or replacements limited mainly to the drawer corners. One original lock missing on the bottom drawer. Excellent tight solid condition. NO damage, replacements, or repairs to the case or legs. Very old possibly original surface with an outstanding color and patina.
