This gorgeous rhodium plated sterling silver and lapis bracelet from Canadian designer David Sigal is fashioned from 7 - large Afghanistan lapis lazuli stones measuring 30mm x 13mm x 5mm - weight by gauge over 15 carats each. The stones are simply stunning~ an even royal blue with flecks of gold pyrite and very little calcite veining (white)~ making them desirable both in size and quality. The piece measuring 7 1/8" in wearable length by 1 1/4" wide and weighing 90 grams is embossed with an abstract wave pattern on the front and stippled on the rear. Stamped Sigal, CA925 and Canada, the piece was acquired from an antique shop about five years ago; other than that, I am unsure of it's age.
Lapis Lazuli ~ a relatively rare semi-precious stone ~ has been highly valued since ancient times. The Persian term meaning "Stone Sky" or "Stone Heaven".
Although this piece is quite contemporary and originates from a self-proclaimed "Vegas" style designer, there can be no argument with it's impressive beauty. In excellent condition. Lapis has been treated with resin, as although the surface of the stone is highly polished and smooth there are a few fissures that can be seen- this treatment is quite common to stabilize the stones. Nevertheless, Lapis Lazuli stones this size, regardless of their treatment, are a rarity. This piece is simply heavenly!
