A 1944 etching measuring 7" by 5" and " image 14" by 10 1/2" framed, featuring a winter view of the 19th century Old Christ Church of Shrewsbury, New Jersey, pencil signed at lower right and signed in the plate with monogram by listed artist JOSEPH MAUBORGNE. At center the artist has inscribed it to his friends as a Christmas present. Mauborgne led a long and interesting life of accomplishment. While young he served in the military in the US and overseas, and he maintained ties to the military for decades, achieving the rank of Major General. Mauborgne is credited with inventions and technological advances in encryption, air to ground communications, and radar. Somehow in the course of this busy life he also found time in the 1920s to attend art school in Chicago, and he also was a talented violin maker.
