Artist signed at lower left (signature area, has been repaired) and dated 1899. On the reverse old gallery label saying "J.G. Whitwell Traditional Gilder and Picture Frame Maker...7 Park Lane, Leeds.." . The artist, William Manners (1860-1930, though somewhere I saw an 1874 birth date) appears to have painted in oil and watercolor in England, creating scenes precisely like this, showing common people going about their lives in the English landscape. His works appear often at auction. This example is signed with his typical signature at the lower left corner.
