This is a beautiful atmospheric moonlight landscape with tall pine tree silhouetted against the sea, signed at the lower right by the noted Polish landscape artist Victor Korecki (1890-1980). Korecki was known for his winter landscapes especially, but also for scenes in other seasons. Born in Kiev, he studied art in Poland and went on to become a prolific and popular painter. Works sell on both sides of the Atlantic at auctions. This work was likely executed in the year 1962 (reverse label affixed to the masonite shows that date, along with other information that is difficult to read due to the handwriting). The work measures 19 1/2" by 16 1/2" and 24" by 20" with the frame. The painter has intentionally left some areas unpainted, and the technique works perfectly, especially in the reflections on the sea. The limited palette makes for an elegant composition.
