The painting is painted on canvas board and measurements are 12" by 16" and 17 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed. The scene depicted is the Place des Pyramides in Paris, notable for its golden statue of Joan of Arc ("Jeanne d'Arc) by the sculptor Emmanuel Fremiet. The statue presides over a square filled with well-dressed people on foot, and elegant horse-drawn carriages. The formality of the 19th century prevails. A silvery gray tone dominates this impressionistic painting, the limited palette spare yet effective. There is no varnish; a light cleaning would be beneficial. A light abrasion is present at right edge. The painting is signed at lower right "C. Villacres". Cesar Villacres was an Ecuadorean-born artist who painted cityscapes and landscapes. Villacres lived for lengthy periods of time in Paris and the United States.
