This is a very location-specific painting---an impressionistic view of the very small old historic downtown of Calabasas, California, not far in distance from modern day Malibu, strip shopping centers and the 101 Freeway, but a long way in atmosphere. Well listed California artist Wilfrid Taylor Mills (1912-1988) has signed it at lower right and again on the reverse, along with the title. The work is on canvasboard and measures 16" by 20" (22" by 26" with wood frame and liner). Mills was born in California, and was known to have taught in New York City, before returning to California. The artist painted a lot of urban scenes with street cars, as well as landscapes; one of those paintings brought over $7,000 at a John Moran auction in Pasadena. The condition is excellent. St
