This is an old charming oil on canvas landscape painting featuring a panoramic view of a river crossed by a Deco period concrete bridge in a valley below green hills, an industrial foreground filled with tracks, trains and brick railroad buildings. Judging from several cars included at lower right, the painting could be dated to the late 1930's or early 1940's. The talented artist, Ethel E Edwards, signed at lower right. Research to date has not revealed information on her. A framer's label on the frame is from the Frederick/Mt. Airy area of western Maryland; this might be a clue as to the geography depicted. There are numerous valleys in nearby Pennsylvania or West Virginia that could be this one. Or, perhaps, it is a compilation of sites known to the artist. Measurements are 21" by 30", and 23" by 32" in the frame. There are several abraded areas, one at lower center, appearing as a whitish area in photos, and another at lower right. Both could be easily attended to. Overall, this is a quite interesting period piece that dates to the time of the American Scene and WPA art. The painting was found in Los Angeles. It is conceivable that this could be a scene of old Los Angeles as the bridge resembles some in the industrial eastern part of the city. The painting has condition light flaking of paint at couple areas (see pictures) easily could be retouched, probably that happens from the intense cleaning. St
