Oil on wood panel painting measures 11" by 16", unframed, signed at lower right "John Morris '69". The artist is well listed and is associated with California and the east coast, with askart noting exhibitions in Chicago and Palm Beach. He is perhaps best known for his modern and surrealistic paintings but painted a wide range of subject matter, including clowns. Interestingly, a big collector of his work seems to have been none other than Noel Coward. When I was visiting at his home in Jamaica some years ago, "Firefly", now maintained as a museum/gravesite, perched high on a mountain overlooking the north coast of the island, with an eye-popping a panoramic view, I noted that the house contained a number of works by this artist. Morris seems to have been a traveler, and his works seem to be widely dispersed, but many show up in Southern California as he spent time here.
