This is a tasteful and elegant modern etching of two women signed in pencil at the lower right and numbered 6/100 by the French-American artist Etienne Ret (1900-1996). Ret was born in France but was in California by the mid-1930s, painting in Hollywood over a course of many decades (he died in his mid 90's). Generally, his works feature people, clowns or harlequin type figures. This painting seems to have some age, the paint showing a fine stable craquelure that adds to the appeal. The work has the appearance of some paintings by Paul Aizpiri and certain other members of the so-called "Ecole de Paris" (School of Paris). Measurements are 16 1/2" by 12" inside the mat and 24 1/2" by 20" framed. The condition is good, ready to hang on your wall. E?
