"Three Sisters Mountains" in Oregon oil on canvas painting, signed at lower left corner, by well listed early California landscape artist FREDERICK SCHAFER (1839-1927). This large painting measures 30" by 50" painting and 40" by 60" with the frame. Schafer was born in Braunschweig, Germany and came to the United States in 1876. He evidently traveled widely, as works are known with Maine and New Hampshire White Mountains subject, as well as west coast locales from British Columbia through Washington, Oregon, and California, as well as Arizona and Utah. His top auction price is $32,000 (a large scene of Yosemite). The artist died in 1927, leaving behind a large body of work which is sought after by collectors of 19th-century western American art. There is some craquelure at various places, please, see pictures. E
