C A posthumous printing of the Hiroshi Yoshida woodblock print "Yoshikawa", by the master shin hanga Japanese artist (1876-1950). The title at lower left margin and signature at lower right margin closely mimic pencil hand-signed signatures, but they are actually printed. This is how we know this is a posthumous restrike. These later printings are still very collectible in their own right. The measures 9 1/2" by 14 3/4" image. Unframed. Yoshida turned to woodblock printing in the late 1920's. He was a hands-on artist who worked closely with carvers and printers. The artist traveled widely in the United States and Europe, creating images of scenes there in his signature style. Most certainly he remains one of the best-known Japanese woodblock artists.
