This is an aquatint etching measuring 22 1/2" by 18" inside the mat and 28 1/2" by 24 1/2" framed. It is signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 137/150 at lower left. I believe the artist is Carl Friedrich Geist (1870-). The subject is identified on a handwritten Korner & Wood Co. (of Cleveland) label on the reverse "Tour des Sociers a Thamn". The scene is the famous Tour des Sociers (Tower of Sorcery, or "Tower of the Wizards"), a 14th century structure in Sion, southwestern Switzerland. This tower was originally part of the protective wall around the town. Over the years it served in various ways, at one time as a prison and place of torture. Today it is a tourist attraction in that city. The print is an attractive work depicting a scene that is unquestionably Old World, and as such, it will fit nicely in a traditional interior. Condition is excellent. I would estimate the print dates to the 1920's or 1930's. I am reminded of the works of Luigi Kasimir. EN
