This is a simply gorgeous Nettie Rosenstein, early 1950's vintage, black silk dress with a scooped neckline, capped sleeves, a back zipper for closure, and a masterfully created balloon hem line. The details and complicated design elements of this dress are quite remarkable. It measures 38" around the bust line and 26" around the waist line and is in excellent vintage condition.
Nettie Rosenstein invented "the little black dress" and had a tremendous influence on the American woman's wardrobe. She had once been described as one of the most highly regarded American designers. Her creations had been carried by only the very elite establishments such as De Pinna's on Fifth Avenue in New York City. She had also been responsible for creating Mamie Eisenhower's inaugural ball gown in 1953. This little black dress is a testament to her ingenious and innovative design sensibilities.
