This is a rare and exquisite La Belle Epoque black velvet and satin ensemble. Belle Epoque which means "Beautiful Era" in French was a period in French history from 1890-1914 which had been characterized by peace, prosperity, optimism, and a flourishing of all the arts. In retrospect, it was considered "The Golden Age". This two piece ensemble is from that time period. The satin skirt is long, sleek, and tailored with hooks and eyes at the back for closure and decorative soutache/passementerie details at each hip with a long, black jet beaded tassel at either side. The long black silk velvet beaded tunic-type jacket has a series of snaps for closure and a asymmetrical hemline. A thick black belt encircles the waist line and is embellished with a large soutache/passementerie detail at the right waist line area. The jacket has a label which reads, " L.P. Hollander & Co. Fifth Avenue 46th Street New York". L.P. Hollander & Co. was a well established luxury dressmaker and import house with many of their designs being imported from London and Paris. The ensemble is in excellent vintage condition and would accommodate a Size Small figure type.
Reduced from $2250.
