Offered for sale is this iconic and masterfully tailored 1970's pant suit designed by Lynn Stuart for the Mister Pants label. This suit and particularly its pants started the birth of a "pants revolution". In the early 1950's George Stuart, Lynn's husband, was a manufacturer of men's pants. As the story goes, George Stuart designed and made a pair of pants for his wife that were well fitted, feminine, luxurious, with a flat front zipper for closure, a typical men's front closure zipper. This had never been done before for women's pants. The pants were so successful that Lynn and George Stuart founded "Mr. Pants" in 1968, I believe, and launched their garment firm into a premier position of major importance in the fashion world. Incidentally, Lynn and George Stuart are the proud parents of Jill Stuart, the American designer who enjoys both domestic and international fame. Their "pants revolution" spread rapidly and Stuarts closed down their men's factory and plunged solely into the women's fashion market. This pant suit is impeccably tailored and consists of a sleeveless tunic top with a high collar which closes at the back with five covered buttons for closure at the neckline area and a zipper down the back for closure of its top. The collared tunic top measures 16.5" across its bust line, 14" across its waist line, and 17.5" across its hip line. The pants are also beautifully tailored with a flat front zipper for closure and extremely wide bell bottom or palazzo pant legs. The waist of the pants measures 12.5" across and the widest part of the pant leg measures 16.5" across. The suit has some issues with various discolorations/stains around its collar, across its left chest area, at the back portion of its top, and its left leg area in the front of the pants, which I have photographed. I'm certain that a specialty cleaner who is familiar with vintage clothing could remove these discolorations/stains. Other than these issues, the pant suit is in very good condition, consistent with its age and usage. This is an iconic piece of fashion history and should be coveted for that reason.
