This is an exquisitely designed and hand-crafted, "Jolies Original", white seed beaded purse from the 1950's vintage. The frame and the clasp or the hardware of a purse is usually what sets a bag apart as being a precious object and this purse is no exception. It's hairband-shaped gold-toned filigree frame has been adorned with four rows of hand-wired twisted coils of tiny white seed beads. The body of the purse is covered in white beads and elongated pearlized beads in a very appealing design pattern. The purse measures 7.5" in width by 6" in height, has a white satin lining, a compartment for a mirror with its original mirror, and is in excellent vintage condition both inside and out.
Ida Jolies, the designer of the bag and founder of the company, sprang from Vienna and had been most famous for creating her petit point tapestry bags along with other novelty bags. She had been honored by her native land for her efforts in employing so many skilled artisans from her country. In 1938 Ida Jolies came to the United States and her company continued to flourish. This bag is an excellent example of the fine artistry she had encouraged.
