This is a stunning, one-of-a-kind, masterpiece of Edwardian handiwork reflecting Napoleonic revival influences of that period. The gown has a high mandarin collar of fine dotted Swiss on netting, a beautiful white on white embroidered asymmetrical bodice without any rigid boning used to support one's shape as opposed to altering one's shape, a high empire waistline that defines the silhouette, asymmetrical draping techniques, and two sashes which hang from the empire waistline which are terminated with white glass beaded tassels. The gown also has a large silk hand-made flower on its side which accentuates the draping effects of the ankle length skirt. There are three series of hooks and eyes for closure at the back of the gown and a crepe de chine under-slip which has been weighted down with thin metal weights. The gown has both couture-like construction and design elements. It is in excellent vintage condition, with the exception of a tiny smudge, hardly noticeable on the skirt area. It would comfortably accommodate a modern day Size 0/2/4.
