This is a decorative and diminutive pair of Chinese enameled foo dogs with articulated heads on gold-toned metal filigree work, each foo dog standing with its paw on a ball, depicting or representing the world. Chinese foo dogs are actually lions called "shi" in Chinese. They are long time symbols of protection and guardianship. Each foo dog in this pair measures 2" in width by 1.5" in height. The pair dates to the 20th century and is in excellent condition.
