This is an elaborately decorated vintage, probably dating to the third quarter of the 20th century, Chinese theater hat which is comprised of seven pieces and must be assembled. The base of the hat is made of cardboard and covered in deep red velvet. Another section of the headpiece had been made to replicate The Kingfisher headpieces of Chinese antiquity. Instead of Kingfisher feathers, blue fabric has been used and this section is further adorned with red pom-poms and faux pearls. Two flat oblong pieces are attached to the back of the headpiece and they depict a rising sun. Two long red silk tassels have been attached to either side. The headpiece is in excellent vintage condition and would probably accommodate most anyone's head size. It has been displayed on a mannequin without the usual wig.
