This is an original and rare colored ethnographic architectural photograph of The Dome of the Rock which is a shrine on the Temple Mount in the old city of Jerusalem. It was erected by the Muslim ruler Abd el-Malik in 688-691. The rock over which the shrine was built is sacred to Muslims, Jews, and Christians. The Dome of the Rock is the oldest Islamic monument that exists today and certainly one of its most beautiful.
The photograph measures 20" in width by 16" in height and has been mounted on black board. The photographer was Bernard Levere (1921-2015) who was a world traveler and an exceptional and award winning photographer. The photograph is in excellent vintage condition and probably dates to the 1970's.
