This covered serving bowl represents the epitome of the Flow Blue movement. It is the "Woodland" pattern which was manufactured by William Brownfield & Sons in England. The lid and bowl are both marked with the English registry number of 1058, which dates the manufacture to 1884. This company was in business from 1850 until 1891. Instead of the unfocused patterns of most flow blue patterns, this one has fine detail with sharp images, that are artistically balanced, lifelike and pleasing. It was transfer printed in a dark, navy blue color, and the natural scenes came out beautifully. The server is about 15 inches long, 7 inches wide and 5 & 1/2 inches tall. It comes with what we believe to be the all white original ceramic ladle. It has a minimum of usage wear, and has no cracks or chips.
