The Arcade toy company was started in Freeport Illinois. It began shortly after the Civil War in 1868 and they manufactured primarily Coffee Mills, Cork Extractors, and Spring Hinges....all having cast metal components. In the early 1900's the company began to make children’s toys. The first Bank toy was the Horse, made in 1908. There were three varieties of horses. In 1921 Arcade started to make vehicles, the first being the famous Yellow Cab, and in 1922 the company expanded into farm toys. The companies’ motto was, “They Look Real.” 1945 spelled the end to a excellent tradition of quality and craftsmanship. The shortage of steel for the war effort made it impossible to make toys and the company was sold to Rockwell.
This nice doll house kitchen table was made during the 1930's along with several other doll house items. They are difficult to find. This one probably was repainted, because the original Arcade white paint was terrible, and it flaked badly. The table top is 4 & 3/4 by 3 and is about 3 inches tall. The table legs are held in place by two machine screws, which look original. The company logo is prominent on the underside of the table's surface.
