Silver Crest was the trade name of the Smith Metal Arts Company. The company started in 1919 by Frederick C Smith. Mr. Smith was the head salesman for the Heintz Metal Arts Shop which was founded by Otto Heintz in 1906. After the death of Mr Heintz in 1918, Smith and other Heintz craftsmen left the Heintz Metal Arts Company and formed this new company. Silver Crest items are very collectable, and their original conditions usually preserved quite well.
This exceptional all Brass box was made by Silver Crest in the late 1940's. It is dated for a forty year anniversary (1907 to 1947) as an inscription on the lid of the box. There is also a Mallard Duck as he takes flight from the marsh. The box is 6 & 3/4 inches long, 3 & 3/4 inches wide and about 1 inch deep. The box is in wonderful condition...the wood liner is great and the hinge is very tight. The entire box has a deep, dark, tan patina.
