This pretty little finger nappy is attributed to the Stouffer Studios which were located in Chicago. Joseph Stouffer purchased the copy right to the "Favorite Bavaria" logo which is marked on the back of this lovely dish. This nappy is about 6 & 3/4 inches in diameter and the finger ring is off set for better comfort. The painting is not as crisp as we have seen on most Stouffer items, but the color selection and objection selection was superb. All in all it is a very lovely piece which has about 95% of its original gilding. It is in excellent condition.
Jacob H. Stouffer was born in northwest Illinois in the farming community of Adeline. At the age of 26 he moved to Chicago and in 1902 he went into business for himself as the J. H. Stouffer Co., China and Glass Wholesalers. In 1905 he opened his first china decorating studio at 3000 Lake Park Avenue in Chicago. The company’s hand-painted china was very popular and sales were brisk. Mr. Stouffer employed some of the best decorators in the business, some who had worked for Pickard or Braurer.
