Torquay England was once economically dependent upon fishing and agriculture, however it has become the “English Rivera” and is now a resort town. Beautiful hand crafted and hand painted art pottery made from the red Devon clay was made in potteries located within 5 miles of Torquay. “Torquay Pottery” has become a generic term which covered the numerous potteries in the area that specialized in using red clay and hand painted glaze. The tradition of Torquay Pottery is about 150 years old.
This lovely little egg cup features a rooster crowing in the early morning and the statement "Fresh Laid." This egg cup is about 3 inches tall and it is in marvelous condition, but it does have manufacturing anomalies. There was some loose sand in the bottom of the cup under the glaze, and in the attached saucer. It is not crazed and it is marked with an impressed mark, on the bottom "Longpark Torquay."
