This is a beautiful 13 inch long knife that was hand made (and hand forged) during the Civil War era. (Our estimate judging from construction) The knife is a fine example of craftsmanship where all aspects were done by hand . The handle was inleted and drilled to accept the tang of the knife, and the handle is only one piece of wood. The 8 inch blade was forged and shaped by hand and then heat treated and sharpened. The one piece handle is held with two steel rivets. The connection is solid and the handle is tight. This beautiful knife has seen over a 100 years and remains useable to this day.
