This beautiful old brooch seems to be jade....but we are not positive. The center piece is mounted securely, sandwiched between metal ...much the same as a prong setting. The surrounding small green stones are held in place also by metal that has been formed around the stones. The intricate filigree pattern is quite fragile , but complete and undamaged. The jade looking center has had hand painted adornments applied, to make a colorful montage of surrounding flowers. The clasp is not what we think of as being a "safety style" as we know them today, but it does have a "keeping " mechanism that locks the pin to the brooch. The pin is in excellent, aged condition...totally complete, but suffering very small age marks and bruises...nothing that would be considered unusual or detracting. The brooch is 2 inches long and 1 & 1/2 inches wide.
