This beautiful little decorative spoon displays a mail bag embossed onto the bowl. The embossed printing on the mail bag is the name of a "new" Rail Road (in 1901), the Lake Shore Michigan Southern. The company was advertising the new mail route by train. The stem of the spoon is embossed with the "Pan American" Logo and on the very top is the head of a buffalo. The Buffalo probably symbolized Buffalo, New York who won the location for the 1901 Pan American Fair from Niagara, New York. This is a lot of content on a hard to find 4 & 1/2 inch spoon. The spoon is in really nice shape, with a rich, healthy patina.
The Pan-American Exposition was a World's Fair held in Buffalo, New York from May 1 through November 2, 1901. The fair occupied 350 acres of land on the western edge of what is now Delaware Park.
