The Adelie Penguin is the smallest species of Penguin in the Southern Ocean. It is one of two species that lives on the Antarctic mainland. The Adelie Penguin was named by French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville after his wife, Adelie in 1840. These migratory Penguins have adapted well to the Antarctic, and continue to do well in this harsh environment.
Aynsley, the maker of this beautiful penguin, was established in January of 1775 in Staffordshire England. Originally the company manufactured very fine china, which was used by Royalty and very special occasions. In 1970 Aynsley was purchased by Waterford, and the name was changed to Aynsley China Ltd. Today the company is owned by Belleek of Ireland.
Offered is an original 1975 Adelie Penguin, made by Aynsley China Ltd. He is over 5 and 1/4 inches tall, and he is in like new, nearly perfect condition.
