Vintage Lavender Colored Wheel Barrow Candy ContainerVintage Lavender Colored Wheel Barrow Candy ContainerVintage Lavender Colored Wheel Barrow Candy ContainerVintage Lavender Colored Wheel Barrow Candy Container

This is a hard to find vintage collectable. Not only is the shape unusual ...that of a wheel barrow, but the lavender color of the glass makes it even more difficult to find. The candy container is 2 1/2 inches tall and over 5 and 1/2 inches long. The old thick glass has a few manufacturing imperfections, such as bubbles and lines just as would be expected from glass made during the turn of the century.... but there are no chips or cracks in the wheel barrow. It's in excellent condition.

The first candy containers were shaped like Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell in celebration of the Centennial Exposition in 1876 in Philadelphia and by the early 1900s, candy containers were being produced in large quantities. Several well known glass companies produced these collectibles including Westmoreland Glass Company, Jeannette Glass Company, Victory Glass, and L. E. Smith. They were sold in dime stores and through mail order catalogs .
