Beautiful Antique Victorian pin-also pendant is set in( brooch weighs 8 grams ) of 14k gold both stamped and tested consists of rose-cut pyrope garnets which were also tested and true. Garnets have a very high refractive index making them very sparkly stones. These Bohemian garnet pieces are amazing in person as they are incredibly sparkly in light. This makes them difficult to photograph well.
Pyrope garnets contain iron, among other minerals, which produces a blood-red color. The stones were favorites of Victorian jewelers, while those in Bohemia (the present-day Czech Republic) have used garnets cut from pyrope for hundreds of years. Bohemian garnet jewelry was very popular from the 1880s through the turn of the century.
