This is a signed WEISS Rhinestone thermoplastic clamper bracelet with matching earrings in a sunny yellow studded with rhinestones. The lemon yellow rhinestones are set into the plastic in diagonal rows. Weiss is famous for its thermoplastic clamper bracelets, done in a wide variety of color combinations, and they often appear in jewelry reference books. This one is unsigned, which is common for their clampers. If you do a Ruby Lane search for them, most are cream or black - the brightly colored ones tend to get snapped up. A "must have" for every Weiss or Plastics jewelry collector!
Measurements: The .875 inch wide bracelet has an inner diameter of 2 inches in diameter. With its 6 inch circumference, it fits a small wrist. The clip earrings are 1.125 inches tall by 1 inch wide.
Condition: The bracelet and earrings are in very good vintage condition. All stones are present with lots of sparkle. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
Marks: The bracelet is unsigned but is a well known Weiss design. According to Susan Klein, author of Mid-Century Plastic Jewelry, these bracelets are a thermoset plastic, not bakelite. She goes on to explain that "the original ones were molded from umbrella handles... called the 'Bon Bon' bracelet and produced for about ten years" during the 1950's to 1960's.
