This flower basket pin is a guilloche enamel on silver done by "JF" of Mexico. This is a bright yellow basket filled with gorgeous red flowers. This beauty can keep happy flowers in your life year round!
There are alternate versions of which silversmith is represented by the JF hallmark. According to hallmark expert Bille Hougart, "Jeronimo Fuentes became director of Margot's enamel workshop after Sigi Pineda left that position in the early 1950s. There are several silversmiths in the Fuentes family, and the letter-number registrations TF-08 and TF-32 probably represent the Fuentes family." Another expert, Leslie Pina in his book, "Mexican Silver Jewelry Details," states, "Margo (de Taxco) is a well known and collected name in Mexican silver but... Jose Frederico has the look and feel and even the quality of Margot." He shows examples of JF's guilloche enamel work (with the hallmark clearly shown) on pages 91 and 93.
Measurements: The pin is 1.5 inches tall by 1.5 and wide with a horizontal clasp.
Condition: The brooch is in very good vintage condition. Please use the zoom feature to review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
Marks: The pin is hallmarked in 3 places as follows: a circle reads "Sterling Mexico" around the edges with "925" in the center; a stylized "JF" hallmark to the right of that; and a faint Eagle Stamp with "1" inside it. The "1" represents Mexico City; he has other pieces marked with the "3" for Taxco. Presumably, he changed locations at some point!
