This vintage Hattie Carnegie starfish brooch features a gold tone, domed starfish covered with twenty one, tiny enameled flowers on the top. I have seen a fish by Hattie Carnegie done in the matching style. The starfish's outer edge has a bumpy texture. The flowers are pink, white and gray. This is a sweet brooch that brings images of beach life, all year long!
Measurements: The starfish brooch is 2 inches wide.
Condition: The pin is in good vintage condition with nicks to the enamel. Please use the zoom feature to review all photographs carefully, as they are an essential part of the description.
Marks: The back side has a cartouche stamped "Hattie Carnegie" in script.
Hattie Carnegie emigrated from Austria to New York in 1886. She worked in Macy's Department store in her twenties, then opened her own hat shop in 1913. This spread to boutiques across the country, then expanded into a fashion empire. She was renown for her "head-to-hem" look, which included hats and costume jewelry. Her jewelry was signed and sold to the public beginning in 1939. Her jewelry business went through many changes over the years, finally closing up shop in 1979. I personally like her creative figural jewelry the best.
