This vintage Flying Colors Ceramic necklace features a lovely basket of flowers straight from the garden. The rest of the necklace is lavender tube beads with various colors of round spacer beads. Flowers were one of the favorite motifs of the interrelated companies of Flying Colors, Parrot Pearls and Ruby Z and this one is sure to be a mood lifter!
Measurements: The necklace is 17.5 inches (44.5 cm) long with a screw together barrel clasp. The basket is approximately 2 inches wide and tall.
Condition: It is in excellent vintage condition. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an essential part of the description.
Marks: The back of the basket reads "Flying Colors." It dates to 1980's - early 1990's.
Company History: Parrot Pearls was founded in 1975 in San Francisco. Their trademark, easily recognizable pieces are ceramic jewelry in whimsical shapes such as animals, flowers, and incorporating colorful beads made into necklaces and pins. Their attention to detail and creativity make them works of wearable art. Parrot Pearls split off in the 1980's into Flying Colors (run by former Parrot Pearl employees) and into Ruby Z, owned by two of the original founders of PP, Bean Finneran and Candace Loheed. All three companies have been featured in collectors' books such as Ann Mitchell Pitman's "Inside the Jewelry Box, Vol. 2" (pages 7 -13) and Kathy Flood's "Warman's Jewelry Guide, 4th Ed." (pages 219 - 221).
NOTE: We always have a good selection of the necklaces from all three companies. Put the word "ceramic" into my shop search, and you can see them all!
