This vintage Flying Colors School Theme ceramic necklace features a bright yellow school bus (complete with kids!) in the front, with an apple, ABC chalkboard and No. 2 pencils. The primary color round blue beads alternate with tubular red beads. This one would be perfect for an elementary or preschool teacher, educator, principal or other school employee.
Measurements: The necklace is 20.25 inches long with a screw together barrel clasp. The bus is 2 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall; the rest of the pieces are less than 1.5 by 1 inch.
Condition: The necklace is in excellent vintage condition. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
Marks: The back of the school bus reads "Flying Colors" with a copyright mark. It dates to the 1980's - mid 1990's time period.
Company History: Parrot Pearls was founded in 1975 in San Francisco. Parrot Pearls split off in the 1980's into Flying Colors (run by former Parrot Pearl employees) and Ruby Z, owned by two of the original founders of PP, Bean Finneran and Candace Loheed.
Their trademark, easily recognizable pieces are ceramic necklaces and pins in whimsical shapes such as animals, flowers, themed motifs that all incorporate colorful beads. They are renown for their imagination and attention to detail. All three companies have been featured in collectors' books such as Ann Mitchell Pitman's "Inside the Jewelry Box, Vol. 2" (pages 7 -13) and Kathy Flood's "Warman's Jewelry Guide, 4th Ed." (pages 219 - 221).
NOTE: We are huge fans of all three companies. Do a shop search using the word "ceramic" and all we currently have in inventory will show up.
