This vintage 1980's Flying Colors necklace features 5 large, bright lifesavers. The lifesavers are the primary colors of red, orange, yellow, and green, The chain has white tube beads with small, colored ball beads in between. Flying Colors picked fun themes like this one, but I also like the subliminal message of being a "lifesaver." If you are someone in a helping profession, or know someone who is, this is the perfect necklace.
Measurements: The necklace is 16 inches long (40.6 cm) with a barrel clasp. The lifesavers are approximately 1.125 inches in diameter and extend about 5.5 inches across the center.
Condition: The necklace is in excellent condition. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an essential part of the description.
Marks: It is marked “Flying Colors” on a heart shaped bead near the clasp.
Company History: Parrot Pearls was founded in 1975 in San Francisco. Parrot Pearls split off in the 1980's into Flying Colors (run by former Parrot Pearl employees) and Ruby Z, owned by two of the original founders of PP, Bean Finneran and Candace Loheed.
Their trademark, easily recognizable pieces are ceramic necklaces and pins in whimsical shapes such as animals, flowers, themed motifs that all incorporate colorful beads. They are renown for their imagination and attention to detail. All three companies have been featured in collectors' books such as Ann Mitchell Pitman's "Inside the Jewelry Box, Vol. 2" (pages 7 -13) and Kathy Flood's "Warman's Jewelry Guide, 4th Ed." (pages 219 - 221).
NOTE: We are huge fans of all three companies. Do a shop search using the word "ceramic" and all we currently have in inventory will show up.
